How to Install Glass Partition Walls | Step-by-Step Guide

How to Install Glass Partition Walls?

Installing glass partition walls is a straightforward process with the right tools and preparation. Here is a detailed guide on how to install glass partition walls, ensuring a smooth and secure installation.

Tools and Materials Required

  • Glass panels (10mm or 12mm toughened)
  • U-channels (25mm, 30mm, or 50mm)
  • 2-part channels for walls and floors
  • Fin-shaped gaskets
  • Dry joins
  • Packers (wood or plastic)
  • Screws and countersunk fixings

How to Install a Frameless Glass Partition with No Door

  1. Cut the 3m lengths of U-channel to fit the opening. The U-channel should span the full length of the ceiling, while the 2-part channel should cover the full length of the floor. Wall channels must be 60mm shorter than the ceiling height if using 30mm channels, or 50mm shorter for 25mm channels. Drill holes at least every 300mm for secure attachment.
  2. Insert the gaskets into the channels' cleats.
  3. Fix the U-channel to the ceiling using screws (not supplied), ensuring they are countersunk. These screws should be suitable for the material to which the channels are being attached. This process secures the channel across the entire ceiling.
  4. Fix the L-shaped part of the 2-part channel along the floor and walls using the same method, ensuring a secure connection between the floor, walls, and ceiling channels.
  5. Position the glass panels into the channels, levelling them with packers. Use small wooden or plastic packers to adjust the levels as needed. Plastic packers are available here.
  6. Apply the dry joins by peeling off the adhesive strip and using them to join the glass panels together.
  7. Clip the front part of the 2-part channel onto the wall and floor channels to complete the installation.

How to Install a Frameless Glass Partition with a Door

  1. Cut the 3m lengths of channel to fit the opening. The U-channel should span the full length of the ceiling, while the 2-part channel should cover the full length of the floor, leaving a 910mm gap for a 900mm door (with a 5mm gap on either side). Wall channels should be 60mm shorter than the ceiling height for 30mm channels or 50mm shorter for 25mm channels. Mitre the channels where they meet at corners if necessary.
  2. Position the glass 15mm from the wall on both sides, leaving a 5mm gap on either side of the door. Allow 4mm for each dry join.
  3. Insert the gaskets into the channels' cleats.
  4. Fix the U-channel to the ceiling with countersunk screws every 300mm, suitable for the ceiling material. Fix the L-shaped part of the 2-part channel to the floor and walls in the same way.
  5. Position the glass panels in the channels, levelling them with packers as needed. Use plastic packers, available here.
  6. Attach the dry joins to connect the glass panels.
  7. Clip the front part of the 2-part channel to the wall and floor channels.
  8. Install the glass door: Attach the flat cover plate above the door opening. Follow the installation instructions provided with the door, ensuring proper alignment. You can use our frameless glass door locks for secure locking.
