Choosing the Glass for a Padel Court

The correct glass depends on the court design, panel sizes, structural requirements and whether acoustic performance is part of the brief.

Final dimensions, edgework, holes and any other required machining must be confirmed before manufacture. Toughened glass cannot be cut or drilled afterwards.

Acoustic laminated glass uses an acoustic interlayer to reduce sound transmission through the glazing. Suitable specifications can provide noise reduction of up to 35 dB.

Why Acoustic Performance Matters

Acoustic laminate can help reduce transmission through the glass itself. The performance of the complete court will also depend on the rest of the enclosure, its construction and the way the different elements are installed.

Acoustic figures relate to the glass specification, not automatically to the completed court. Overall site noise performance depends on the complete court construction and surrounding environment.

Safety Glass for Padel Courts

Padel court glazing needs to cope with player contact and repeated ball impact. Toughened safety glass is heat treated so that it has greater resistance to impact than ordinary annealed glass and has controlled breakage behaviour if failure occurs.

The safety-glazing wording we use is BS EN 12600. The required glass thickness and complete court specification should follow the design for the particular padel system being installed.

Ball Rebound and Court Performance

The glass walls form part of the playing surface in padel, so consistency matters. Correctly specified toughened court glass provides the hard, consistent surface required for predictable ball rebound.

This is one reason the glass specification should not be changed simply to achieve a particular acoustic target without considering the requirements of the court system as a whole.
