Can I Install a Glass Partition Myself?

Yes — but you need to be a competent DIYer, builder or carpenter, and you will need at least two people. Glass panels are heavy (a standard 2050mm x 900mm panel in 10mm glass weighs approximately 46kg), so glass suckers are essential for safely lifting and positioning the panels. If you have experience with a laser level, a drill and accurate measuring, our kits are designed to make installation as straightforward as possible.

We are the only UK supplier offering complete glass partition kits that you can configure, price and buy online instantly — no waiting for quotes, no site surveys, no sales calls.

What Skills and Tools Do You Need?

You do not need specialist glazing experience, but this is not a beginner DIY project. The skills required are precision measuring, drilling into walls, ceilings and floors, and confidence working with heavy glass panels.

Tools you will need: a laser level (essential for ensuring channels are perfectly aligned), a drill with appropriate bits for your wall and ceiling type, a measuring tape, a pencil, a hacksaw or mitre saw for cutting channels to length, glass suckers for lifting and positioning glass panels, and safety glasses and gloves for handling glass.

The aluminium U-channels are fixed to the ceiling and floor first, with gaskets inserted, creating a framework. The glass panels are then lifted into the channels using glass suckers and secured in position. Panels are connected using dry joins — there is no silicone, adhesive or wet trades involved. Packers may be needed if the floor or ceiling is uneven.

What Is Included in a DIY Glass Partition Kit?

Complete kits (with glass) include pre-cut 10mm toughened safety glass panels to BS EN 12600, aluminium ceiling and floor U-channels in your choice of Silver, Black, White or Anthracite, rubber glazing gaskets, 180-degree dry joins between panels, a frameless glass pivot door with self-closing mechanism and handle, packers, and all fixings. Delivered within 7 working days.

Hardware-only kits (without glass) include all the aluminium channels, gaskets, joins, door hardware, packers and fixings — everything except the glass. Ideal for builders and contractors who prefer to source glass locally. Available on next-day delivery.

How Long Does It Take?

A straight partition up to 3 metres wide typically takes one day to install with two people. Larger partitions or corner layouts may take a day and a half to two days. The main time is spent on accurate measuring and fixing the channels — once the framework is in place, positioning the glass panels is relatively quick (with glass suckers and two people).

Is It Safe to Handle the Glass?

The glass in our kits is toughened (tempered) safety glass manufactured to BS EN 12600. It is approximately four to five times stronger than standard float glass and, if it does break, it shatters into small granules rather than sharp shards. However, the weight is significant — 10mm glass weighs 25kg per square metre and 12mm glass weighs 30kg per square metre. You must have two people and glass suckers to move and position the panels safely.

When Should You Use a Professional Instead?

Most installations are well within the capability of a competent tradesperson or experienced DIYer. However, you may want to consider professional installation if your ceiling is very high (above 3 metres), if the floor or ceiling is significantly uneven, or if the layout is complex (such as a multi-wall configuration). We can arrange professional installation if you prefer.

How Much Does a DIY Glass Partition Cost?

Complete DIY kits with glass start from £858 including VAT for a 1430mm wide straight partition with a single door. A standard 2730mm meeting room partition costs £1,117 including VAT. Hardware-only kits are 40–50% less. All prices include UK delivery. See our full pricing guide or use the instant calculator for your exact price.
